Too Faced is a brand which has unique and beautiful packaging; the limited edition Merry Macarons set is no exception. I was lucky enough to receive this gorgeous gift set for Christmas, and want to share with you my thoughts.
Christmas in New York
While I appreciate that Christmas has already passed, and this particular palette is pretty much sold out everywhere, I’m sure a lot of this range were given as gifts. So I hope that this review and tutorial will be useful to those who do have it.
I love that the entire Christmas in New York collection follows the Too Faced colour scheme. Completely pink, the range definitely encapsulates festive New York.
The packaging to the Merry Macarons is absolutely adorable. It comes in a rectangular box. When you remove the lid the front flap opens revealing a 3D picture. There is an ice skater, a puppy, a macaron stand and a Christmas tree.
Taking centre stage in this pop-up scene is a mini version of the best selling Better Than Sex mascara. I’m a huge fan of this, so am thrilled to have a travel size version to pop into my makeup bag.
Sitting in the front flap is the removable eyeshadow palette. You can keep this as a beautifully presented set, or take the products out of the packaging and use them as normal. The palette itself is very thin and compact, perfect for travel. Inside the lid of the palette is a 2D version of the Christmas scene.
The eyeshadow palette has 12 pans, the colour selection is mostly neutral. The five matte shades in here range from the very pale Coconut through the the dark Almond Mocha. The shimmers range from a highlight Champagne Rose all the way through to the black Cookies and Cream. The pops of colour come in the form of the almost duo-chrome Violet Cassis to the dark plum Chocolate Raspberry.
Whilst there are no exact matches, the colour selection is very reminiscent of the Chocolate Bar palette. Being that Chocolate Bar is one of my favourite palettes, you can probably guess that I am a huge fan of Merry Macarons. Also, similar to Chocolate Bars Cocoa smell, Merry Macarons is vanilla scented, making it even more delightful to use!
I have done a finger swatch of each of the colours to show you how they look on my skin. I have heard that some ‘holiday palettes’ have different formulas, or don’t perform as well as the main stream collections. However, I am very impressed by the quality of the Merry Macarons shadows, and they are definitely comparable to the Chocolate Bar formula.
Also included in the box is a glamour guide showing you some eye looks you can create using the palette. I have created a tutorial for a simple purple eye look on my YouTube channel:
