I am very excited to have finally tried out some ColourPop goodies! If you haven’t yet heard of ColourPop, they are an LA based brand who are known on social media for their high quality products with a really affordable price tag. There doesn’t seem to be much on their website about the brand itself and how it was formed, but with a little internet research I discovered it’s parent company, Seed Beauty was founded by siblings called Laura & John Nelson. Interestingly, Seed Beauty also have Kylie (as in theKylie Lip Kits) and two ‘confidential’ brands under them.
First in my haul were five of the Ultra Matte Lip liquid lipsticks, these sell for USD $6 each, which a third the price of some of my other favourite liquid lips. I’ve worn each of them for a whole day and I am very impressed. They dry down very quickly, there is very little transfer and they last all day; just as well, if not better, then more expensive brands I have.
I am a massive fan of the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lips, but I found the shade Noble was so light it wasn’t as opaque as the others and can wear off faster. The ColourPop shade Platform is comparable to Noble, so I wondered if I would have the same issue, but it still has amazing opacity and longevity.
The shade Chi is from the Karrueche Tran collab, KaePop, I also got a Lippie Pencil from the range, Kae Pencil, it’s a deep warm brown and I thought it would be a good colour to compliment some of the lipsticks shades.
The pencil glides on beautifully, it’s got a really sturdy plastic body which you can sharpen like a wooden pencil. These sell for USD $5.
I got one of the Lippie Stix, from the Matte X range in the shade Pillow Talk. These essentially apply like a standard lipstick, but it a thinner tube. It applies totally matte and is more moisturising than the liquid lipsticks, but lasted just as well. The Lippie Stix are also a steal at USD $5 each.
I’ve swatched all the lip colours, there is definitely a bit of a neutral colour scheme going on!
I am really pleased with all the colours I chose, although I will say that some of the colours appear darker on my skin than I they appeared on the website. This may be down to my skin tone, or my computer screen settings, and in all honesty, I like them anyway and they are so cheap I will definitely buy more; however if you did want a specific shade I would recommend doing a lot of swatch searches on google rather than just rely on the ColourPop website.
I also bought a couple of highlighters. The white shade is called ‘Stole the Show’ and actually looked quite peachy pink toned on my skin. The pink shade is called ‘Smoke N Whistles’ which appears almost translucent on me. Both are pigmented but natural on my skin, and I’m very pleased with them.
The consistency of the product is very unique; if you apply pressure you leave a dent, almost like it’s a creamy putty, but it dry and a very finely milled powder once applied to the skin. The highlighters are USD $8 each.
Lastly I bought four Super Shock Shadows, these are only $5 each. Initially I was going to order the ‘Jenn Ne Sais Quad’ set, but the sets are still four individual pots and cost the same price, so I decided to pick four colours of my own choice. I ended up with ‘Bill’, ‘Cornelious’, ‘Alchemy’ and ‘Central Perk’.
These seem to be a similar formula to the highlighters, and they have a cute pattern printed into them, which disappears as soon as you touch it because they are so soft.
Shipping from the US to NZ isn’t a flat rate and goes up with the weight of your order; I ordered 13 items and shipping was $29.81, which is on the more expensive side. It took 10 days to arrive, which isn’t average for a US order, and to be fair delivery delays can have nothing to do with the company you buy from. The only other ‘issue’ I experienced was that my order didn’t register on my account, I emailed customer services who said not to worry, they were doing website updates and I would get an email once my order had been shipped. I never did get an email, but obviously it arrived safely, so wasn’t a problem in the end.
Here is the makeup look I came up with using some of my new ColourPop products, and you can see how I got this look in my video below.
